UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Nuclear receptor co-regulator; Adaptor/scaffold Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q12.3 Cellular Component: cytoplasmic vesicle membrane; cytoplasm; plasma membrane; cytosol Molecular Function:insulin-like growth factor receptor binding; protein domain specific binding; protein binding; enzyme binding; sodium channel regulator activity; protein heterodimerization activity; actin binding; glucocorticoid receptor binding Biological Process: intracellular protein transport; substantia nigra development; regulation of neuron differentiation; apoptosis; glucocorticoid receptor signaling pathway; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; regulation of synaptic plasticity; glucocorticoid catabolic process; negative regulation of dendrite morphogenesis; regulation of sodium ion transport |
NCBI Summary: | This gene product belongs to the 14-3-3 family of proteins which mediate signal transduction by binding to phosphoserine-containing proteins. This highly conserved protein family is found in both plants and mammals, and this protein is 99% identical to the mouse, rat and bovine orthologs. This gene contains a 7 bp repeat sequence in its 5' UTR, and changes in the number of this repeat have been associated with early-onset schizophrenia and psychotic bipolar disorder.
