Background: | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) family. The TRIM motif includes three zinc-binding domains, a RING, a B-box type 1 and a B-box type 2, and a coiled-coil region. The protein localizes to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus. Its function has not been identified. |
Synonyms: | tripartite motif containing 31 |
UniProt Protein Function: | TRIM31: Regulator of Src-induced anchorage independent cell growth. May have E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity. Belongs to the TRIM/RBCC family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 6.3.2.-; Ubiquitin conjugating system Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p21.3 Cellular Component: cytosol Molecular Function:protein binding Biological Process: innate immune response; negative regulation of viral transcription; negative regulation of virion penetration into host cell; positive regulation of transcription factor activity |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a protein that functions as an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. This gene shows altered expression in certain tumors and may be a negative regulator of cell growth. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016] |
