Immunofluorescence staining of MCF-7 cells with PACO63715 at 1:50, counter-stained with DAPI. The cells were fixed in 4% formaldehyde, permeabilized using 0.2% Triton X-100 and blocked in 10% normal Goat Serum. The cells were then incubated with the antibody overnight at 4°C. The secondary antibody was Alexa Fluor 488-congugated AffiniPure Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG(H+L). |
Background: | RNA-binding protein. Possesses nucleolytic activity against cytotoxic lymphocyte target cells. May be involved in apoptosis. |
Synonyms: | Nucleolysin TIAR (TIA-1-related protein), TIAL1 |
UniProt Protein Function: | TIAL1: a member of a family of RNA-binding proteins that possesses nucleolytic activity. A cytotoxic T cell granule-associated protein that has been shown to bind specifically to poly(A) homopolymers and to fragment DNA in permeabilized target cells. Members of this protein family may be involved in the induction of apoptosis. Two splice variant isoforms have been described. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:RNA-binding; Apoptosis Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q Cellular Component: stress granule; lysosome; cytoplasm; nucleus Molecular Function:RNA binding; nucleotide binding; AU-rich element binding Biological Process: regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; apoptosis; stem cell division; positive regulation of cell proliferation; defense response; germ cell development |
NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of RNA-binding proteins, has three RNA recognition motifs (RRMs), and binds adenine and uridine-rich elements in mRNA and pre-mRNAs of a wide range of genes. It regulates various activities including translational control, splicing and apoptosis. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. The different isoforms have been show to function differently with respect to post-transcriptional silencing. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
