Background: | This gene encodes a dual serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinase which is expressed in multiple tissues. It is thought to function as a regulator of cell death. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. |
Synonyms: | dual serine/threonine and tyrosine protein kinase |
UniProt Protein Function: | DSTYK: a serine/threonine protein kinase of the 'Other-Unique' family, most closely related to kinases of the TKL family including IRAK and RIPK. Overexpression induces apoptotic cell death. The caspase inhibitor crmA apparently blocks DNA fragmentation but not apoptosis, suggesting that SgK496 may induce both caspase-dependent apoptosis and caspase-independent cell death. Four alternatively spliced isoforms have been described. |
