Background: | CIAPIN1 is a cytokine-induced inhibitor of apoptosis with no relation to apoptosis regulatory molecules of the BCL2 or CASP families. Expression of CIAPIN1 is dependent on growth factor stimulation. Component of the cytosolic iron-sulfur (Fe-S) protein assembly (CIA) machinery. Required for the maturation of extramitochondrial Fe-S proteins. Part of an electron transfer chain functioning in an early step of cytosolic Fe-S biogenesis. Electrons are transferred to the Fe-S cluster from NADPH via the FAD- and FMN-containing protein NDOR1. |
Synonyms: | cytokine induced apoptosis inhibitor 1 |
UniProt Protein Function: | CIAPIN1: May be required for the maturation of extramitochondrial Fe/S proteins. Has anti-apoptotic effects in the cell. Involved in negative control of cell death upon cytokine withdrawal. Promotes development of hematopoietic cells. Belongs to the anamorsin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Apoptosis Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q21 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; nucleolus; nucleoplasm Molecular Function:protein binding Biological Process: iron-sulfur cluster assembly; negative regulation of apoptosis |
NCBI Summary: | CIAPIN1 is a cytokine-induced inhibitor of apoptosis with no relation to apoptosis regulatory molecules of the BCL2 (MIM 151430) or CASP (see MIM 147678) families. Expression of CIAPIN1 is dependent on growth factor stimulation (Shibayama et al., 2004 [PubMed 14970183]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] |
