Background: | Essential subunit of the farnesyltransferase complex. Catalyzes the transfer of a farnesyl moiety from farnesyl diphosphate to a cysteine at the fourth position from the C-terminus of several proteins having the C-terminal sequence Cys-aliphatic-aliphatic-X. |
Synonyms: | Protein farnesyltransferase subunit beta (FTase-beta) (EC 2.5.1.58) (CAAX farnesyltransferase subunit beta) (Ras proteins prenyltransferase subunit beta), FNTB |
IHC image of RACO0250 diluted at 1:100 and staining in paraffin-embedded human tonsil tissue performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a Goat anti-rabbit IgG polymer labeled by HRP and visualized using 0.05% DAB.
Immunoprecipitating FNTB in K562 whole cell lysate Lane 1: Rabbit control IgG instead of RACO0250 in K562 whole cell lysate For western blotting,a HRP-conjugated Protein G antibody was used as the secondary antibody (1/2000). Lane 2: RACO0250(2µg)+ K562 whole cell lysate (500µg). Lane 3: K562 whole cell lysate (10µg).

Goat polyclonal to rabbit IgG at 1:50000 dilution. Predicted band size: 49, 44 kDa. Observed band size: 49 kDa. |
UniProt Protein Function: | FNTB: a subunit of farnesyltransferase that is responsible for peptide-binding. Farnesyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of a farnesyl moiety from farnesyl pyrophosphate to a cysteine at the fourth position from the C-terminus of several proteins. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Transferase; EC 2.5.1.58 Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q23.3 Cellular Component: cytosol; microtubule associated complex Molecular Function:protein binding; protein farnesyltransferase activity; zinc ion binding Biological Process: protein farnesylation; regulation of rhodopsin mediated signaling |
NCBI Summary: | This locus represents naturally occurring read-through transcription between the neighboring CHURC1 (churchill domain containing 1) and FNTB (farnesyltransferase, CAAX box, beta) on chromosome 14. The read-through transcript produces a fusion protein that shares sequence identity with each individual gene product. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011] |
